Coventry City F.C., founded in 1883, has a long and storied history in English football. There was a time when it used to be a premier club with quite a successful record during the 1960s and 70s. During that time, it faced giants like Tottenham Hotspur and defeated it to win the FA Cup.

Under the leadership of Sir Alex Ferguson, Manchester United won the match 4-0, when Mark Hughes scored two goals and Eric Cantona and Ryan Giggs scored one goal each. Not only did Manchester United win this match but they also won the Premier League and FA Cup double that season.

February 1997: Coventry City 2-2 Manchester United

The third entry in the Coventry City F.C. vs Man United timeline came in February of 1997 when both clubs faced each other at Highfield Road again, and this time Coventry City was not only they were fighting to stay in the Premier League but Manchester United also had the home field advantage.

Despite Coventry City giving its best, Manchester United was able to match it and the game ended with a 2-2 draw. Coventry City twice took the lead with Noel Whelan and Dion Dublin each scoring a goal but Eric Cantona and Ole Gunnar Solskjær for Manchester United were able to match it.

December 1997: Manchester United 3-0 Coventry City

This same year in 1997 both Manchester United and Coventry City met again at Old Trafford in a Premier League match. But this time the encounter was totally one-sided and Manchester United won the match 3-0, with Nicky Butt, Andy Cole, and Ryan Giggs each scoring a goal.

This win resulted in Manchester United getting one step closer to another Premier League Title win and Coventry City one step closer to relegation from the event.

February 1998: Coventry City 2-0 Manchester United

Next than 2 months after their previous match, another episode was added to the Coventry City F.C. vs Man United timeline in Highfield Road. This time however it was Coventry City who was going to win the match and they got it with a 2-0 score.

It was Dareen Huckerby who scored both goals for Coventry and the win was particularly significant as it came against a Manchester United side that would finish as Premier League runners-up that season.

The final major encounter in the Coventry City F.C. vs Man United timeline came in April of 2001 when both clubs faced off each other in Old Trafford for another Premier League match. The match proved to be very one-sided and Manchester United won it easily with a 2-0 score.

Teddy Sheringham and Dwight Yorke scored one goal each and this defeat was part of a difficult season for Coventry, which ultimately ended in their relegation from the Premier League, while Manchester United cemented itself as the dominant club in the region.
