It has been less than three days since President Trump and President Putin met, and now President Zelensky is now meeting Trump, but unlike Putin,
there will be no welcome signs in Alaska or B-2 flyovers; instead, a harsh reality awaits Zelensky at the White House. But he will not be alone in this meeting, as other European leaders, including heads of state of the UK, France, Germany, Italy, Finland, the President of the European Commission, and the NATO Secretary-General, will also be in attendance.
The main agenda of the meeting is to discuss a peace deal, and it seems like Trump has made it clear that Zelensky has to cede Crimea, and Ukraine will not be joining NATO. Conditions that are not only rejected by Zelensky but also by all the major European leaders. It looks like all European leaders are united in warning Trump against making any deal that rewards Russia and comes without a NATO style security deal for Ukraine, something even President Putin has reportedly accepted.
Considering that only recently, Russia conducted missile and drone attacks on Kharkiv, Odesa, Sumy, and Zaporizhzhia, which led to many civilian deaths, it is understandable why Ukraine wants security guarantees, and it seems that Trump is open to it, something that even the European leaders welcome, but considering President trump’s record of backing out of deals, can America truly be trusted, this is the question many critics are asking.
