With thousands of soldiers dying every year, there seems to be no end to the Ukraine war. Trump & Putin Set to Meet in Alaska to Discuss Ukraine Peace Plan
But in another go at stopping this war, U.S. President Donald Trump is set to meet Russian President Vladimir Putin on August 15, 2025, in Alaska, of all places. President Trump, who had promised to end the war in a single day, has struggled quite a bit to convince President Putin to negotiate for peace.
This has been a constant point of criticism for him, as he has always claimed Putin to be a friend who listens to him, but Putin’s actions speak otherwise, and this has taken a toll on Trump, as his relations with Putin have gotten worse in the past few weeks. But with this meeting, he hopes to implement his cease-fire plan, which even involves swapping territories, meaning that Ukraine may be pressured to cede occupied regions like Crimea and Donbas. This is especially concerning, as Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s participation in this meeting remains uncertain, which is once again drawing criticism of how decisions concerning Ukraine’s sovereignty can be made without its input in the decision-making process.
Overall, this meeting is significant in the sense that it will be the first time the two Presidents meet since the souring of their relationship, especially after Trump has gone after a Russian ally, India, and has threatened more sanctions on Russia itself, in coordination with European allies.
