You may not know Jensen Ackles by name, but there is a good chance you have seen him on TV. You best know him for playing Dean Winchester in Supernatural and that is the character he is most known for, and recently he appeared as Soldier in the TV series The Boys. However, today we are going to talk about movies with Jensen Ackles.
He may be mostly known for Supernatural and The Boys and also appearing in other famous TV series like Dawson’s Creek or Smallville or even Soaps like Days of Our Lives, but he has done a few movies as well and you may even have seen a few movies with Jensen Ackles without knowing.
That is because he has done a lot of voice acting in superhero movies, particularly playing the role of Bruce Wayne Aka Batman in the animated movies. So let us take a deep dive into all his movie roles and evaluate them one by one.
To date, he has appeared in one short film and ten full-length movies, with five of them being animated superhero movies. Here is a breakdown of all of them.
Released in 2004 it was a short film, only 16 minutes long, and Jensen Ackles not only had an acting role in the film but was also an executive producer. Danneel Ackles his wife also had a role in this film, although they hadn’t married at that time.
When we say movies with Jensen Ackles, Devour was his first actual movie as not only was it a full-length movie but Jensen also had a starring role in it. Released in 2005 it was a horror thriller and he played the role of Jack Gray who is having difficulty differentiating reality from fantasy.
Sadly, the movie did not do so well and only got 4.7 stars on IMDB and had a 20 % approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
Of the many movies with Jensen Ackles, Ten Inch Hero is the only one that did really well. It was not a major hit or a box office blockbuster but did overall on IMDB with a rating of 7.3 stars. Released in 2007 it was a comedy-drama starring Elisabeth Harnois as Piper who gets a job at a local sandwich shop.
Among the many people she meets, there is Jensen Ackles as Priestly a rocker with green hair and lots of piercings. In this movie again, Danneel Ackles starred alongside Jensen and this was three years before they got married.
Released in 2009, My Bloody Valentine is a horror mystery thriller movie starring Jensen Ackles. He plays the role of Tom who returns to his hometown only to become a suspect in the massacre and as the movie progresses, it turns out that he is actually the killer, at least partly, and has a split personality.
The movie was a remake of a Canadian movie with the same name and while it got only 5.3 stars on IMDB it did really well at the box office as it made almost $ 120 million on a budget of only $ 14 million and was released both in 2D and 3D.
Of all the movies with Jensen Ackles, this one is the strangest as Jensen Ackles is known for being the voice actor of Batman/Bruce Wayne in a number of Batman animated movies. But in his first Batman movie that is this one, he played the role of Red Hood and not Batman himself.
The movie was released in 2010 and did really well commercially scoring $ 12 million, which might not sound but for an animated TV movie is really good.
It seems Jensen Ackles took a long hiatus from movie roles. Because his last movie was released in 2010 and this movie Buddy Games was released in 2019. Even then, Jensen Ackles did not star in it and only had a small cameo role. He then again appeared in Buddy Games: Spring Awakening and this time his role is not listed as a cameo, but it was still very small.
Of all the animated movies with Jensen Ackles, he is best known for playing Batman/Bruce Wayne and he has voice-acted this character four times to date. He first starred in Batman: The Long Halloween in 2021 which was a two-part movie with part one being released in June of 2021 and part two in July.
The movie got 7.5-star ratings on IMDB and did all right on the commercial level for a direct-to-video movie. This led to Jensen Ackles voicing Batman again not once but twice in 2023 in the movies Legion of Super-Heroes and Justice League: Warworld.
Both these movies did ok with a rating of 5.8 stars and 5 stars respectively. This led to Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths a three-part movie being released in 2024, which got a rating of 6 stars on IMDB.
